About Acupuncture
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a comprehensive system of
healthcare that has been used to diagnose, treat and prevent illness for
more than 3,000 years. It works with the body’s natural vital energies
referred to as Qi (pronounced “Chee”) to promote a state of
balance. When Qi flows smoothly, there is little occurrence of pain or discomfort
because the body is in balance. If the flow of Qi is interrupted or blocked,
the body becomes imbalanced causing pain and discomfort to occur. Acupuncture
is then used to unblock and restore the smooth flow of Qi.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncturists are regulated and licensed by the National Certification
for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as well as by the state where
the Acupuncturist has their practice. When practiced by a well-trained professional
Acupuncture is a very safe and effective method of healing. To eliminate
the risk of infection, Marianne only uses sterile disposable needles in
her clinic.
How Does Acupuncture Feel?
Acupuncture needles are significantly finer
than hypodermic needles. They are about the diameter of a human hair and
they are both solid and very flexible. Most clients experience little to
no discomfort on insertion. Sensations most commonly felt are tingling,
warmth, heaviness or tightness around the area where the needle is inserted.
Most people find Acupuncture treatments relaxing and many fall asleep during
treatment.
